The best recipe for non-alcoholic mulled wine
People who try this non-alcoholic mulled wine always ask me if I’ve secretly sneaked a little something in, because it tastes so good….
1x 1L carton unsweetened red grape juice
1x 1L carton unsweetened cranberry juice
Light soft brown sugar to taste (200g if you like it very sweet)
200ml fresh orange juice
Rind of half a lemon, thinly pared
2 cinnamon sticks (preferably cassia)
6 green cardamom pods, lightly crushed
¼ whole nutmeg, grated
1 orange to stud with cloves
Oranges for slicing to float on top
Add cranberry and red grape juice to the pan, clove studded orange and lemon rind.
Add cinnamon and cardamom pods, grated nutmeg and sugar. Heat gently until almost boiling. Turn down the heat to the lowest possible and simmer for 30 minutes to infuse. Add orange juice and reheat gently.
Strain into a large warmed bowl and serve with thin slices of orange floating on top.
